Video Smack has arrived

Welcome to Video Smack

Last year, late in the summer I had an idea to create an impromptu video/film series around DC. It was something to do, during what was is considered "the slow period" in gallery business. Well, I got sidetracked and ended up producing a performance piece instead.

Well, a year later...Summer is back and the film series is gearing up.

Here is how it works:
On any given night of the Summer, we show up at some location in, or around Washington DC and set up our projector, or projectors and turn them on.

Pretty simple huh.

Well, the locations may, or may not be authorized by the "powers that be". Sometimes, red tape just slows down everything. So...

So, we show up and roll till we are asked to leave, or are arrested (we ask in the event of a bust that a human shield be formed around the organizers till the equipment can be gathered and we make our escape).

What kinds of Video will be shown?
An international mix of filmwork by artists, both emerging and established (If I can get them to do it). We are leaning toward production oriented artists filmwork/video. That is, artists who spend a little bit more time in post-production. Then again, if I like it, I'll project it.
I want to focus on international. There is so much going on out there, and it's all just a DVD and a fedex away.

How do you find us??
Six hours before the film rolls, we send out a mass e-mail, or text message (if we can figure out how to do that one) and post it on facebook with location and film info. It's kind of a video rave, you show up and enjoy. Locations are somewhat film dependent. We will try and find an interesting location to create some sort of flow with the film. Then again, if it's a hot summer, I am not opposed to doing the entire thing in a pool somewhere. Did someone say Cannonball! There is a strong emphasis on the work being shown in a public setting. I want people who do not ordinarily visit galleries or museums to stop, take a look and hopefully ask some questions.

Does it cost anything??
Out of the goodness of our hearts, nope. We are dropping the time and the expense for the sake of a good time and to bring some amazing artwork to the city to enjoy. We are not opposed to someone buying us a beverage, or flipping for pizza during the show. And if we get pinched, bailing us out of jail.

So, get yourself on the call list. First film premiers in mid July!
